(Bengali: বরিশাল) may be a district in
south-central East Pakistan, erst referred
to as Bakerganj district, established in 1797.[1] Its
headquarters ar within the town of Barisal, that is additionally the
headquarters of Barisal Division

Barisal District may

Formerly the district was referred to as Bakerganj that was established as a section in 1797. it had been a municipality from 1876 to 2002 and upgraded to Barisal town Corporation in 2002. Barisal was declared a division onone January 1993. Barisal district consists of 1 town corporation, 5 municipalities, 66 wards, 111 mahallas, ten upazilas,eighty six union parishads, 1147 mouzas and 1175 villages
